Shires’ aims are to support the Shire horse breed in all traditional activities
whilst promoting the Shire as a riding horse, in order to encourage new
interest from the wider equine community.
It is our belief that the future of the Shire horse and the small band
of dedicated breeders will be assured if there is a more diverse market for
many of the youngstock not suited to showing, breeding or working in
harness.

Shires compete in various disciplines including showing in hand, under saddle
and dressage. In dressage we often
compete against light horses and are proving that the Shire horse can hold its own
in quality classes against talented, bred for the job, dressage horses. The stallions have given a number of ‘dressage
to music’ demonstrations which have proved to be very popular with spectators
and will continue to be available for ridden displays.
